A legal e-scooter belongs on the road, and that means it needs insurance. For every e-scooter approved for public roads, third-party liability insurance is legally required: it covers the damage you cause to others. Ride uninsured and you risk a fine and pay for everything yourself. At Pure Electric you arrange this easily through StepVerzekerd, our dedicated insurance partner working together with Unigarant. On top of the mandatory liability cover, you can add extra protection against theft and damage to your own scooter. All you need are your scooter's details, and you are often insured within a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Air6 legal in the Netherlands?

Yes. The Air6 is approved by the RDW as a special moped (bijzondere bromfiets). It has a maximum speed of 25 km/h, comes with an official Dutch license plate, and meets the European safety and battery regulations. Once it is registered in your name and insured, you can legally ride it on public roads.

How do I get my license plate?

Your license plate is already in the box, together with the registration code (tenaamstellingscode). You do not need to visit an RDW test location yourself: the plate is produced and supplied with your Air6, so you can mount it straight away.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Third-party liability insurance (WA) is legally required for every e-step allowed on public roads. It covers the damage you cause to others. Riding without insurance means a fine and paying for any damage yourself. You can arrange cover quickly through StepVerzekerd, and you can add extra protection against theft and damage to your own scooter. You usually only need your scooter details and you are often insured within a few minutes.

Do I need a driving licence, and is there a minimum age?

You do not need a driving licence for an approved e-step like the Air6. You do have to be at least 16 years old to ride it on public roads.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

A helmet is not mandatory for an approved e-step with a maximum speed of 25 km/h. We still strongly recommend wearing one for your own safety.

Where and how fast am I allowed to ride?

Keep to the right on the bike path or moped path (bromfietspad). If there is no bike path, you ride on the road. Riding on the sidewalk is not allowed. Your maximum speed is 25 km/h, which is the legal limit for approved e-steps in the Netherlands.
